Wednesday 18th April - Italy - Florence
Today we got an open-top bus from Fiesole into Florence. The bus trip was interesting for both us and the girls. We drove past Ponte Vecchio the sort of view that even if you dont think you know it, you have probably seen it before.

We decided to stop at the Giardino di Boboli, part of the Palazzo Pitti complex. Its a Renaissance garden and we thought it would be good for the girls to run around there for a bit. Before getting in we had to join a queue for tickets. No problem, there was a big square and lots of pigeons so that means endless fun for a 2 and a 4 year old. Andrew was in the queue and I was watching the girls chasing pigeons thinking This is great. Then Naomi fell over which was almost bound to happen really. I went over and picked her up to comfort her and she promptly peed herself. Not good. Naomis been great with the potty for weeks now and so we hadnt taken a change of clothes for her. Andrew had just collected the tickets so he made a quick dash to a nearby shop to buy a pair of shorts for Naomi. I just dried in the sun and went around smelling of pee for the rest of the day.

After all that, Giardino di Boboli was lovely. Naomi fell asleep so we had lunch and kept some for her. We got back on the bus and went to the Duomo the huge cathedral. It was amazing both inside and out.

After the Duomo we headed back to Fiesole on the open-top bus again.
There would have been loads of other things we would have loved to see in Florence, but we realise that you just have to slow down when youve got the kids with you. Its better to enjoy a few things happily than tire them out trying to see too much.
