Saturday 27th October - South Africa - Cape Town (Day 9)
Manys a tasty wine is produced in the area around Cape Town. Today we drove to Stellenbosch, less than an hours drive away and visited one of the vineyards. We selected the Spier wine estate as it seemed to have child-friendly activities alongside the wine tasting.

Spier is a very well set up place with picnic areas, shops, craft market, playpark, pony rides, musicians and dancers, cheetah breeding program etc, etc. We had a lovely picnic under the trees and enjoyed shopping, browsing and walking around. Unfortunately we didnt drink nearly as much wine as wed hoped to because the wine tasting finished at 4.30pm.

There are so many wine estates around Cape Town that you could spend days and days going round them. That would be a holiday excursion best enjoyed without children, though.

On the way back from Stellenbosch we stopped at the Signal Hill viewpoint and enjoyed the views of the city and of Table Mountain. Cape Town is the most beautiful city I have ever visited and it must be one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. Dramatic, craggy mountains tower over the city centre and golden, sandy bays surround the peninsula. Were glad we have a week to explore the place, it would be easy to spend a lot longer here.
