Saturday 29th September - Mozambique - Maputo
The road from Xai Xai was good, smooth tar. I think this is the way it will be for most of the journey ahead.

Back in Chimoio we had been given a recommendation of a place to stay at in Maputo Sophies Guest House. On the way to Maputo we phoned the guest house but they were closed for the weekend. They recommended another place to us - Livingstones Guest House in the suburb of Matola and thats where we ended up. (www.livingstonesguesthouse.com)

A key requirement for our accommodation in Maputo was satellite TV, because Scotland was playing Italy in the Rugby World Cup. The guest house has satellite TV and whats more it is run by a Scottish couple Andy and Margaret, originally from East Kilbride. Margarets home-cooked steak pies were a delicious reminder of home and then we settled down to watch the rugby.

There hasnt been rain in Maputo for 6 or 7 months, but 10 minutes into the match the heavens opened. Thunder rumbled, lightning flashed, the telly flickered, the rain pounded . and then there was a power cut. The power cut was across a large area of Maputo. We waited in hope that the power would be restored, but finally we gave up and went to bed with candles and torches.
