Wednesday 11th July - Ethiopia - Bahir Dar (Day 2)
Today we took a packed lunch and went for a boat-trip on Lake Tana, visiting the island monasteries of Kebren Gabriel, Debre Mariam and some other one whose name I cant remember. The lake is very picturesque and the monasteries are very interesting. At the monasteries we saw some (often gruesome) paintings and some incredibly old goatskin Bibles they said 16th century although I can hardly believe that. To get to the monasteries we walked past mango, papaya, banana and coffee trees. Only Andrew visited Kebren Gabriel as women are not allowed in so the girls and I played with a friendly butterfly while we waited for Andrew to get back. On the way back to Bahir Dar we saw some hippos popping their head up out of the water.
